NARAL Pro-Choice America President Nancy Keenan released a statement on the Senate's health-reform bill: "It is outrageous that... the Senate has succumbed to including further anti-choice language in its bill. While the Senate bill does not include the Stupak-Pitts provision, this new language is unacceptable."
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC announced its endorsement of Rep. Kendrick Meek for the open U.S. Senate seat in Florida, and endorsements in several races for seats in the U.S. House of Representatives: Rep. John Adler (NJ-03), Rep. Tim Bishop (NJ-01), Rep. Mary Joe Kilroy (OH-15), and Ann McLane Kuster (NH-02).
Sen. Al Franken introduced a bill that would guarantee that servicewomen stationed overseas have timely access to emergency contraception, also known as the "morning after" pill. Sen. Olympia Snowe signed on to be a lead sponsor of this critical bill. Rep. Michael Michaud introduced the bill in the House.
President Obama signed the omnibus appropriations bill passed by Congress. The bill repeals a policy that for years prevented Washington, D.C. from using locally raised funds to pay for abortion-care for low-income women. Plus, it eliminates funding for two failed "abstinence-only" programs (with investments now going to teen-pregnancy prevention).
