NARAL Pro-Choice America Endorses Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto for Reelection to the U.S. Senate for Nevada
Nation’s leading reproductive freedom advocacy group endorses incumbent Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada
Washington, DC — Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America announced its endorsement of Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) for reelection to the U.S. Senate in the 2022 election.
NARAL Pro-Choice America Acting President Adrienne Kimmell released the following statement:
“NARAL was proud to support Senator Cortez Masto in 2016, and we’re thrilled to support her again in the 2022 midterms. During her time in the Senate, Sen. Cortez Masto fought to safeguard reproductive freedom against an all-out assault on our fundamental rights. We know she will continue to take bold action to make sure every body in Nevada and across the country has the freedom to make important decisions about their health, lives, families, and futures.”
Senator Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement:

Now more than ever, it is critical that Nevada sends a leader for reproductive freedom back to the U.S. Capitol.”
Sen. Cortez Masto has been a fierce leader in the fight for reproductive freedom, earning a 100% score in NARAL’s Congressional Record on Choice every year she has served in the U.S. Senate. She is committed to increasing access to abortion care and cosponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), which would protect the right to abortion throughout the United States by creating a right for healthcare providers to provide abortion care and a corresponding right for people to receive that care, free from medically unnecessary restrictions. WHPA works toward a future where all of us are free to make the personal decisions that shape our lives, our futures, and our families, without political interference.
She is also a cosponsor of the EACH Act, championed by the reproductive justice advocates at All* Above All. The EACH Act would ensure that federal health plans and programs cover and provide access to abortion care by lifting existing coverage bans for those who receive their care or health insurance through the federal government, including those insured through Medicaid and Medicare, federal employees, Indigenous communities, pregnant people who are incarcerated or in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, service members, and people with low incomes in the District of Columbia. The bill would also prohibit the federal government from interfering with the private insurance market to prevent insurance companies from providing abortion coverage.
This endorsement comes as reproductive freedom is in peril like never before. The U.S. Supreme Court will soon hear Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the first direct challenge to Roe since the confirmation of the court’s anti-choice supermajority.
Anti-choice, anti-freedom lawmakers have ramped up their attacks on abortion access in hopes of ultimately overturning Roe v. Wade. So far in 2021, anti-choice state lawmakers have already introduced, advanced, or passed more than 315 bills attacking abortion access. This year, states have enacted over 90 restrictions on abortion. These restrictions disproportionately push access out of reach for Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian American Pacific Islanders, and people of color; LGBTQ people; those with low incomes; and others who face systemic barriers to care.
