NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Field and Political Director

Summary

NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio is dedicated to building and sustaining a constituency that uses the
political process to guarantee access to reproductive healthcare for every Ohioan, including
preventive care, family planning, sexuality education, prenatal and postnatal health care, and
safe, legal abortion. NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio is a grass-roots 501(c)(4) advocacy organization.
Two additional affiliated organizations help advance NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio’s mission. The
NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Foundation conducts public education and research intended to
increase public awareness of relevant reproductive health care issues. The NARAL Pro-Choice
Ohio PAC is a political action committee that conducts direct electoral work with and for prochoice
candidates.

NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio seeks an energetic, strategic, and innovative person to serve as its
Field and Political Director. The Field and Political Director is responsible for overseeing field
and electoral operations, program implementation and management, and supervision of
regional field organizers based in Columbus and Cleveland. The Field and Political Director
works directly with the Deputy Director to create, manage, and execute a comprehensive field
and political plan.

Responsibilities

  • Write and implement a comprehensive, data-driven field plan
  • Manage a field team to execute comprehensive field plan
  • Set, meet, and exceed benchmarks for activist engagement, volunteer recruitment, and voter education and outreach
  • Optimize and implement best practices for data management
  • Establish a strong professional culture within the field organization focused on accountability and specific goals, while at the same time fostering individual and organizational innovation and sense of purpose
  • Assist organizers with recruitment, selection, and supervision of interns.
  • Represent the organization in coalitions across the state
  • Coordinate field organizing with fundraising operations
  • Coordinate with other staff to manage the field program budget and logistics and ensure cohesive execution of priority programming
  • Represent and promote NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio at local, regional, statewide, and national gatherings
  • Other duties as needed

Qualifications

Ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and skills:

  • Strong commitment to reproductive rights and justice
  • At least seven years of organizing experience, at least one year/election cycle working for a state-wide campaign
  • At least three years managing a field/organizing program including managing staff/interns
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including oral presentations to groups of varying sizes
  • Self-motivated and able to adapt to swiftly changing dynamics
  • Working knowledge of political and electoral environment of Ohio
  • Demonstrated ability to organize in diverse communities and work within a coalition
  • Superior work ethic
  • Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, and think strategically
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically to build positive relationships with coalition partners, candidates, elected officials, staff, volunteers, board members and NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio members
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office suite
  • Extensive experience with and the ability to train on the Voter File (VAN) and
  • EveryAction (NGPVAN) database/outreach program
  • Mastery of social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Must have reliable transportation, current auto insurance and valid driver’s license
