This is a professional internship designed to integrate the intern as a member of the membership fundraising team. The intern is expected to perform in a fast-paced, demanding program. This position is primarily responsible for assisting the Direct Marketing Manager, Membership. In addition, the intern is responsible for providing general assistance to the Development Department, on an as-needed basis.
Take-Away: Upon completion of this internship, the intern will have gained comprehensive experience of a nationwide direct marketing fundraising program. In addition, the intern will leave with a deeper understanding of the status of American women's reproductive rights and how NARAL Pro-Choice America works to protect freedom of choice.
Responsibilities:
As a member of the Development Department, the Membership Intern position includes the following duties:
Member Communications
- Communication (via phone, email, fax, etc.) to donors upon their request
- Performing changes to records as reported on comment reports at member request
- Coordination and execution of mailings to monthly givers
- Fulfilling Honor, Tribute and Memorial gift acknowledgments
- Monthly calls to collect employer and occupation information for PAC contributors
Administrative
- Database maintenance as needed
- Check copying for deposits
- Maintenance of monthly giving status and report changes to vendor for processing
- Check voicemails, return informational calls (as needed)
- Provide assistance to the department, as necessary, with processing of gift acknowledgements and other administrative tasks
Department Relations
- Observes the teamwork necessary for all components of a successful national development program by attending Development Department Meetings
Direct Marketing Strategic Planning
- Participates in the strategic planning of direct mail packages, telemarketing scripts and online appeals in twice weekly meetings with respected fundraising consultants for progressive nonprofits
- Conduct site visits with one or more vendors and work with the caging and cashiering firm
Qualifications:
- College degree or enrollment in a degree program;
- Strong attention to detail required;
- General office experience helpful;
- Strong computer skills using Windows Office software, Outlook and database software.
