This is a professional internship designed to quickly integrate the intern as a member of the Major Gifts, Personal Contact team. The intern is expected to perform in a fast-paced, demanding development program. This position is primarily responsible for assisting the Major Gifts Manager and Deputy Director of Development, Major Gifts. In addition, the intern is responsible for providing general assistance to the Development Department, on an as-needed basis.
NARAL Pro-Choice America is the political leader of the pro-choice movement. The Major Gifts intern will gain in-depth knowledge of reproductive rights, have the opportunity to work closely with the progressive donor community, and join a team of experienced political and development professionals.
A minimum of 8-10 (++) hours per week is required along with a three month commitment. This position is unpaid.
Responsibilities:
As a member of the Development Department, the Major Gifts Intern position includes the following duties:
Research of Major Donors and Prospects
Assist in major donor research and prospecting through the use of online tools. Information will subsequently be routed and entered into the major donor database.
Call Time Logistics
Work with the Major Gifts team to prepare call sheets, enter results into the database and assist with any necessary correspondence and follow-up activities as requested.
Travel
Assist the Major Gifts team with preparation for Major Donor trips with a focus on:
- Booking of staff travel reservations and lodging
- Assembly of materials and donor packets for donor meetings
- Donor stewardship and follow-up to donor meetings, including data entry and mailing solicitation letters and thank-you notes.
Donor Cultivation Activities
Assist in the planning and execution of various cultivation activities with a focus on:
- Major donor fundraising events such as receptions and house parties
- JBS quarterly conference call briefings
FDC Events and emails
Assist with the Future Direction Committee (the FDC is a group of donors and activists under 30 with active chapters in NYC and Chicago) with a focus on:
- Planning of FDC events in NYC and Chicago
- Member record maintenance
Administrative:
- Record maintenance
- Conduct routine or pre-developed data pulls from major donor database for Personal Contact team
- Filing hard copies of donor correspondence
- Expense and vendor reimbursements
- Provide assistance to the department, as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Department Relations
Observes and participates in the teamwork necessary for all components of a successful national development program by attending Development Department Meetings, Major Gifts Meetings, Personal Contact Meetings, List Review Meetings and assisting with department-wide projects as necessary.
Qualifications:
- College degree or enrollment in a degree program;
- Strong attention to detail required;
- General office experience helpful;
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and database software.
