NARAL Pro-Choice Montana Foundation promotes reproductive freedom and choice through education in an effort to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion.
We are looking for creative, upbeat, pro-choice students to fill the position of Campus Organizer at University of Montana-Missoula, Flathead Valley Community College, Montana State University-Bozeman, and Montana State University-Billings. Campus Organizers play an important role in educating and activating their fellow students and community members about the ongoing importance of reproductive rights issues. You must be a student at the college for which you'd like to be a campus organizer.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Program Director to develop and implement a nine-month grassroots organizing plan and establish goals relating to that plan that will include: measurable outcomes, data tracking, volunteer recruitment and retention, and volunteer leadership development.
- Attend Campus Organizer Training in the fall.
- Plan for and implement campus-based events such as:
- National Young Women's Day of Action
- Anniversary of Roe v. Wade
- National Back Up Your Birth Control Day
- Conduct educational outreach activities about relevant choice issues on campus including tabling events, rallies, etc.
- Write letters to the editor to create awareness of choice issues on the campus and in the community.
- Work with students, faculty, staff and appropriate student and community groups to generate interest in choice issues and to establish a NARAL Pro-Choice Montana presence on campus.
- Report data collected from organizing work on campus to the Program Director through regular phone calls and email.
- Find a replacement organizer at the end of the internship.
Qualifications:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required for the Campus Organizer position, as is the ability to work independently with regular supervision and assistance.
Contact/Other Information:
The Campus Organizer will be provided with materials, training and support that he/she can use to successfully organize on campus along with $75/month expense stipend. The Organizer is expected to devote between 5-10 hours per week to organizing and report back to the Program Director with his/her progress. NARAL Pro-Choice Montana Foundation will work with your school to ensure academic credit.
