Did you know that Nebraska ranks last among all 50 states and the District of Columbia in efforts to help women avoid unintended pregnancies?

In 2006, the Guttmacher Institute assessed all 50 states and the District of Columbia on their efforts to help women avoid unintended pregnancy.  The study used three specific indicators that have a measurable impact on women's ability to obtain, and correctly use, contraceptive services and supplies:

1)  Service availability:  how well states meet existing need for subsidized contraceptive services and supplies.

2)  Laws and policies:  whether state laws and policies are likely to facilitate or hinder access to contraceptive services and information.

3)  Public funding:  the extent to which states use their own funds, and leverage potential federal funds, for the delivery of contraceptives.

According to the study, Nebraska ranked 51st in service availability, 34th in laws and policies, 49th in public funding, and 51st overall.
