Lemon wedges. Crocodile dung. Seaweed. Frogs. In the age before safe, effective birth control, these were the types of options women had to rely on for birth control.

Send an e-card today to spread the word about promoting women's access to birth control -- and never going back!

Americans across the country have shared in their own words the reasons they care so deeply about women's access to birth control.

"I think that access to birth control is so important because..."

I think that access to birth control is so important because it is a matter of personal choice, freedom and privacy. Women must be guaranteed the right to control their choices about pregnancy and unfettered access to birth control and emergency contraception is a vital part of that guarantee. Studies have shown that the better informed women are about their choices the less incidence there is of unintended pregnancies and abortions. This is absolutely a moral issue - the issue of avoiding unwanted, unintended pregnancies (and, therefore, abortions) and of the right of each woman to make decisions regarding her body and her life.

Carol, New Paltz

the right to access and the right to privacy are fundamental human rights, that no woman should have withheld. Access to safe and reliable birth control is a preventative measure and should be supported along with any program designed for health & disease prevention.

Margo, Trumansburg

I believe being a citizen of a democratic country should include the right to control one's own body. I believe I am the only person who has the right to oversee my body's reproductive ability. Access to birth control helps both sexes take responsibility for their actions and gives everyone the opportunity to determine her/his own future.

Leah, New York

How can our government think that it makes sense to limit access to birth control, make abortions more difficult to get, and cut access to programs that help single mothers all at the same time? I believe in a woman's right to choose, and feel that there will always be abortions, the only question is whether they will be safe and legal. Making access to birth control and abortion more difficult just opens us up to the "back alley abortion" days. That is shameful!

Bonnie, Flanders

if we are really serious about reducing the number of abortions, we must provide women with information about birth control. Pretending that such information will generate rampant sexual encounters for teen-agers is idiotic. Having taught for thirty years, I know that good information allows young people to make intelligent, informed decisions.

Harriet, Rego Park

I have seen what can happen without it, plus women should have a right to decide about what they choose to do about their life. If they choose to abstain fine, but if they choose another method, they have that right to do so.

Maureen, Flushing

It is the only way we can cut down on unwanted pregnancies without having to resort to increased abortions. This should be something everyone can agree on.

Louise, Bayside

Growing up, I was always told that I could do whatever I wanted to do with my life - and I believe that having access to birth control gives women the opportunity to pursue their dreams and have families when they are ready.

Kristin, Burnt Hill
