We held our 17th Annual Chicago Power of Choice Luncheon on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Karen Berkowitz, Steven Cohen, JoAnn Eisenberg, and Rabbi Michael Sternfield served as the event's co-chairs.
Chicago civic leader and television/radio journalist Sylvia Ewing kept the program going as the event's mistress of ceremonies, while Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, urged the more than 300 attendees to talk about their pro-choice values with people in their lives and connect the personal with the political.
We were honored that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius delivered the keynote speech. She spoke about the War on Women that anti-choice politicians are waging throughout the country:
They don't just want to go after the last 18 months, they want to roll back the last 50 years in progress women have made in comprehensive health care in America.
We've come a long way in women's health over the last few decades, but we are in a war.
It's Politics. It's Personal. It's Choice.
