Pro-Choice Voter Guide: Illinois District 17
Rep. Bobby Schilling
Rep. Bobby Schilling (R) is anti-choice. He is the incumbent.
Rep. Schilling earned a 0-percent score in NARAL Pro-Choice America's 2011 Congressional Record on Choice.
Voted twice to block Planned Parenthood from receiving any federal funds, which would have denied millions of Americans access to contraception, cancer screenings, and other basic medical care.
Voted for H.R.3, a bill that would ban abortion coverage in state health-insurance exchanges; impose tax penalties on small businesses and many individuals who purchase private health plans that include abortion coverage; and make permanent several restrictions that block many women from accessing abortion care.
Voted to allow hospitals to refuse to provide emergency abortion care to women who could die without it.
In January 2011, Rep. Schilling said,"But I believe that as Americans, we need to defend life to its fullest. I believe life begins at conception and it ends at our natural death. I have talked to people who have had an abortion. The hurt goes on with women who have had abortions. I think we need to focus in on educating folks and giving them that alternative. And maybe every Planned Parenthood out there should have to do sonograms maybe even in a 3D series."
Cheri Bustos (D) is pro-choice.
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC has endorsed Bustos.
