Pro-Choice Voter Guide: Indiana District 04
Rep. Todd Rokita
Rep. Todd Rokita (R) is anti-choice. He is the incumbent.
Rep. Rokita earned a 0-percent score in NARAL Pro-Choice America's 2011 Congressional Record on Choice.
Voted twice to block Planned Parenthood from receiving any federal funds, which would have denied millions of Americans access to contraception, cancer screenings, and other basic medical care.
Voted for H.R.3, a bill that would ban abortion coverage in state health-insurance exchanges; impose tax penalties on small businesses and many individuals who purchase private health plans that include abortion coverage; and make permanent several restrictions that block many women from accessing abortion care.
Voted to allow hospitals to refuse to provide emergency abortion care to women who could die without it.
Rep. Rokita said, "I strongly believe that American, and Hoosier, tax dollars should not be spent on abortion or funding organizations that actively encourage the practice. Considering our debt has reached an unsustainable level so dangerous it threatens our very way of life and our children's future, the last thing we should be funding are abortions or organizations that encourage abortion. H.R. 3 is an important step in making that the law of the land. I am proud to cosponsor this bill and even more proud of the bipartisan manner in which it passed the House of Representatives. Our leaders need to stand strong together, look out for taxpayers and protect the lives of those who cannot protect themselves."
Tara Nelson
