Rep. Virginia Foxx
Rep. Virginia Foxx (R) is anti-choice. She is the incumbent.
Rep. Foxx earned a 0-percent score in NARAL Pro-Choice America's 2011 Congressional Record on Choice.
Voted twice to block Planned Parenthood from receiving any federal funds, which would have denied millions of Americans access to contraception, cancer screenings, and other basic medical care.
Voted for H.R.3, a bill that would ban abortion coverage in state health-insurance exchanges; impose tax penalties on small businesses and many individuals who purchase private health plans that include abortion coverage; and make permanent several restrictions that block many women from accessing abortion care.
Voted to allow hospitals to refuse to provide emergency abortion care to women who could die without it.
On the U.S. House floor in 2009, Rep. Foxx said, "And I want to say that I share Congresswoman Dahlkemper's philosophy, that I support life from conception to natural death, and I think that a society that devalues the unborn will soon devalue those who are born, and I do not want to see our country going down that slippery slope because it would not be good for us."
Rep. Foxx said, "So as we mourn the holocaust of abortion and the grievous toll it has taken upon our Nation, let us not forget whose side we are on. Though the battle to protect every life, from unborn child to disabled elderly will be long and hard, it is a battle worth fighting."
