State Sen. John Adler (D)
U.S. House of Representatives, New Jersey district 03
- John Adler, a State Senator, is running in an open seat, with Representative Saxton retiring.
- State Senator Adler is fully pro-choice, and once served on the Board of NARAL Pro-Choice New Jersey.
- Adler is running against Chris Myers. "Standing with [Representative] Saxton at the Medford Memorial Community Center, Myers called himself ‘a Jim Saxton Republican'…[Myers] did not express his views on many issues yesterday, saying he would elaborate as the campaign unwinds. He did offer some short answers, however. He opposes abortion." [Philadelphia Inquirer, 1/11/08]
- In the state Senate, Adler has been a solid pro-choice vote. In 2006, he voted in favor of S1195, a bill establishing "a pharmacy's duty to fill prescriptions for in-stock drugs or devices without delay, notwithstanding sincerely held moral, philosophical or religious beliefs of pharmacist[s]." In 2004, he voted in favor of S556 requiring "insurers that provide outpatient prescription drug benefits and State Health Benefits Program to cover costs of prescription female contraceptives." Also in 2004, he voted in favor of S1668, a bill which "requires hospital and satellite emergency departments to provide care to sexual assault victims and information about emergency contraception and the contraceptives upon request."
