- Senator John Kerry was first elected to the Senate in 1985.
- Senator Kerry is fully pro-choice and received a 90% pro-choice rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America in 2007.
- Senator Kerry is a co-sponsor of both the Freedom of Choice Act and the Prevention First Act.
- In his very first race for Congress back in 1972, John Kerry ran as a pro-choice candidate - even before the Roe decision of 1973.
- The first written statement he submitted as a new Senator was addressed to President Reagan in support of Roe v. Wade which "judicially secure[ed] the right to choose as a matter of fundamental constitutional law" and "made clear [that] the right to choose is a fundamental right, based on each woman's right to privacy. Neither the Government nor any person has the right to infringe on that freedom."
- More recently, Sen. Kerry brought together senators from across the country to sign onto a letter opposing President Bush's "abstinence-only" programs.
