Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D)
U.S. Senate, New Jersey
- Senator Frank Lautenberg is fully pro-choice and has been a long-time friend and ally of NARAL Pro-Choice America. He sponsors pro-choice legislation and amendments, and also champions our issues with his colleagues – specifically taking a lead role against "abstinence-only" programs.
- "Frank Lautenberg is New Jersey's senior senator. He was elected in 1982, 1988, and 1994 and retired in 2000, then returned to run again in October 2002 when Bob Torricelli (D) withdrew from the race." [2008 Almanac of American Politics]
- Senator Lautenberg received a 100% pro-choice rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America in 2007.
- Senator Lautenberg is being challenged by former representative Dick Zimmer. "On abortion, [Zimmer] said, 'I support a woman's right to choose,' along with 'reasonable restrictions, such as a ban on partial-birth abortion and parental notification.' He said abortion should not be a litmus test for confirming federal judges." [Newark Star-Ledger, 4/13/08]
- Senator Lautenberg is a co-sponsor of both the Freedom of Choice Act and the Prevention First Act.
