Nick Leibham (D)
U.S. House of Representatives, California district 50
- Nick Leibham is fully pro-choice.
- Nick Leibham is running against mixed-choice congressman Brian Bilbray. Bilbray voted, among other things, to disqualify Planned Parenthood from participating in the Title X program. Bilbray received a 0% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America in 2007.
- On his campaign website Nick Leibham states: "I understand the importance of reproductive healthcare education, and will always stand up for a woman's right to choose. Without a consistent position on the right to privacy, the health of our wives, sisters and daughters is jeopardized. I am proud to be endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
To the contrary, Brian Bilbray received a 0% rating for his Congressional record on choice from NARAL in 2006 and 2007. Brian Bilbray's voting record on choice is fraught with inconsistencies (he claims to be pro-choice), and his most recent votes overwhelmingly reflect his position against women's reproductive rights. How can Bilbray be so contradictory on such a fundamental issue? Bilbray has chosen political calculation over common sense policy with votes ranging from prohibiting military personnel from using their own funds to obtain reproductive services in military hospitals overseas to limiting reproductive rights for federal employee health coverage. I will always be a champion for the right to privacy, and my votes in Congress will reflect this."
