- Jeanne Shaheen is the former governor of New Hampshire and a former State Senator.
- Shaheen is running against Senator John Sununu who is staunchly anti-choice, and even opposes birth control, sex education, and teen-pregnancy prevention programs. Senator Sununu has received a 0% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America every year since he was elected as Senator in 2002.
- Shaheen has an excellent record of standing up for women's reproductive rights. As Governor, Shaheen signed legislation repealing New Hampshire's pre-Roe v. Wade law making abortion a felony. She also signed a bill to ensure health insurance coverage for contraceptives.
- As a state Senator, Shaheen introduced legislation to ensure safe access to women's health care clinics.
