Washington, DC – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, today announced that her organization's political action committee proudly endorsed pro-choice Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) in a key U.S. Senate race in 2010.
NARAL Pro-Choice America has more than 14,000 member activists in the Nutmeg State that the organization will mobilize in support of Sen. Dodd's reelection.
"Sen. Dodd has a long and distinguished record of protecting and defending a woman's right to choose," Keenan said. "Just recently, under Sen. Dodd's leadership, a key committee defeated repeated attempts by anti-choice senators to politicize health-care reform legislation with divisive anti-choice amendments and adopted important new provisions that will improve women's access to family-planning care. Sen. Dodd will continue to stand up for women's freedom and privacy and be an outstanding advocate for Connecticut's commonsense pro-choice values."
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC contributed the maximum amount of $10,000 to Sen. Dodd for the primary and general elections.
Overall, NARAL Pro-Choice America's political program has helped produce enormous gains for pro-choice forces in Congress, including the combined net gain of 44 pro-choice seats in the House and nine new pro-choice senators in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles. In its 2008 post-election analysis, National Journal ranked NARAL Pro-Choice America second among the nation's top 21 political organizations for its impressive win rate among endorsed congressional candidates in hotly contested races.
