New NARAL Pro-Choice America Video Highlights McCain’s Call to Outlaw Abortion

Excerpts from Meet the Press interview show McCain unconcerned with consequences of overturning Roe v. Wade

Washington, D.C. – Today, Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, announced the launch of the organization's third video in a planned series that highlights McCain's extreme anti-choice record. On the same day as the final presidential debate, the video, called "Fight," will be sent out to more than half a million activists and will showcase McCain's support for outlawing abortion, even if a woman's life is in danger. "John McCain's position on choice is extreme and dangerous," Keenan said. "Not only does McCain's record show that he's voted against a woman's right to choose 125 times, but this video allows voters to hear the truth right from the candidate's mouth. John McCain wants to outlaw abortion, even if it means women's lives will be at risk. Americans don't want another four years of a president who will continue to turn back the clock. They want a leader who will move this country in a new direction, who will protect our freedom and privacy, and stand up for our pro-choice values."

This video series is intended to educate pro-choice voters about the inaccuracies behind the McCain-Palin "maverick" image. McCain and Palin's extreme anti-choice positions include opposition to a woman's right to choose, even in cases of rape or incest, and they even go so far as to oppose birth control and comprehensive sex-education.  Last week, NARAL Pro-Choice America sent its second video urging Americans to ask debate moderator Bob Schieffer to question John McCain about birth control coverage during the final debate. At last count, 15,000 activists had contacted Schieffer.

"Americans will be watching the final debate, and waiting to hear some 'straight-talk' from McCain," Keenan continued. "McCain and his advisors know that the majority of Americans will not support the McCain-Palin ticket's opposition to a woman's right to choose. Pro-choice Americans have sent a message - there is a real difference between McCain and Obama when it comes to choice, and it's time that McCain fesses up. There's only one candidate who will protect a woman's right to choose, and that's Sen. Barack Obama."
