NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC Endorses Candidates in Top U.S. House and Senate Contests
Pro-choice organization looks to protect pro-choice pick-ups and special-election winsWashington, DC – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, announced that her organization's political action committee made another round of endorsements in key U.S. House and Senate races across the country.
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC endorsed two candidates for U. S. Senate races: pro-choice incumbent Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) in his bid for reelection in Wisconsin and state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias in his bid for an open seat in Illinois.
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC also endorsed two pro-choice House incumbents: Rep. Rick Boucher in Virginia's 9th District and Rep. Patrick Murphy in Pennsylvania's 8th District. In addition, NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC endorsed state Sen. Ted Deutch for Florida's 19th district, where he seeks to keep in the pro-choice column the open seat vacated by Rep. Robert Wexler.
"We are proud to put our support behind this outstanding slate of pro-choice candidates," Keenan said. "Our goals for 2010 are clear: We will do all we can to protect the tremendous gains we made in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles and find opportunities to support pro-choice challengers who have real opportunities to unseat anti-choice incumbents in Congress. What distinguishes this election cycle is that so many strong pro-choice candidates are emerging across the country. Our activists will have multiple opportunities to work on behalf of candidates who support women's freedom and privacy."
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC made its first round of endorsements late last fall.
Overall, NARAL Pro-Choice America's political program has helped produce enormous gains for pro-choice forces in Congress, including the combined net gain of 44 pro-choice seats in the House and nine new pro-choice senators in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles. In its 2008 post-election analysis, National Journal ranked NARAL Pro-Choice America second among the nation's top 21 political organizations for its impressive win rate among endorsed congressional candidates in hotly contested races.
