NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC Targets Toomey with 11th Hour Mail AttackNARAL Pro-Choice America PAC’s mail piece to hit 175,000 households in the Philadelphia area right before Election Day
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, today announced that 175,000 households in the Philadelphia market will receive a hard-hitting mail piece calling out Senate candidate Pat Toomey’s extreme anti-choice views.
"The Pennsylvania Senate race is set to go down to the wire," Keenan said. "We want to ensure that these pro-choice voters know exactly how extreme Pat Toomey is. Toomey wants to outlaw abortion and put doctors in prison. He cannot hide from these extreme views, especially when the facts about his record arrive in voters' mailboxes."
The mail piece, which was paid for by NARAL Pro-Choice America's political action committee, also cites Toomey’s endorsement from an extreme anti-choice group, Concerned Women for America PAC, which among other egregious positions, opposes providing emergency contraception, such as ella®, to rape survivors in the emergency room.
The mail piece builds on NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC’s support for Rep. Joe Sestak. The PAC endorsed Sestak in May during his ultimately successful primary campaign against incumbent Sen. Arlen Specter. The PAC has contributed the maximum $10,000 to his campaign. In addition, the pro-choice group has consistently communicated with its list of 20,000 member activists in Pennsylvania. Its volunteer-led phone banks have been calling members throughout the commonwealth.
The mail universe was developed in coordination with Catalist, the national voter file company that is on the cutting edge of new voter-identification tools. Using data from NARAL Pro-Choice America, Catalist developed a pro-choice model that gives every registered voter in the country a "pro-choice score" that progressive groups can use to identify likely pro-choice voters. NARAL Pro-Choice America’s new pro-choice model has been made widely available to progressive campaigns and committees to help identify, communicate with, and turnout pro-choice voters in any state, district, city or neighborhood in the country.
