NARAL Pro-Choice America Congratulates Chris Coons on His Victory Over Anti-Choice Candidate
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, praised Delaware voters for electing NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC-endorsed candidate Chris Coons to represent them in the U.S. Senate. Sen.-elect Coons will replace a mixed-choice incumbent, which means this victory is a pro-choice pick-up.
“We look forward to working with Sen.-elect Coons in protecting a woman’s right to choose,” Keenan said. “Sen.-elect Coons’ anti-choice opponent, Christine O’Donnell, opposed abortion, even in the cases of rape and incest. As opposed to the circus-like atmosphere O’Donnell’s candidacy created, Sen.-elect Coons exhibited his thoughtful approach to issues, including the need to protect women’s freedom and privacy. His reasonable pro-choice views stood in stark contrast with his opponent’s extremism, and Delaware voters made it clear that they want a mainstream senator who will stand up for mainstream values like choice.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC contributed $5,000 to Sen.-elect Coons’ campaign. In addition, the organization mobilized its 1,206 member activists in Delaware in support of Coons’ candidacy. NARAL Pro-Choice America also featured Coons on BlogForChoice.com, its website, and its Facebook page.
