NARAL Pro-Choice America Congratulates Sen. Michael Bennet
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, praised Colorado voters for electing NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC-endorsed candidate Sen. Michael Bennet to continue to represent them in the U.S. Senate.
“Colorado voters had a clear choice in this race, and they sided with a pro-choice champion over an anti-choice extremist,” Keenan said. “We look forward to continuing to work with Sen. Bennet in protecting a woman’s right to choose in a hostile political environment. Many anti-choice politicians, including many elected to office this election cycle, will attack women’s freedom and privacy, and we will work with Sen. Bennet and our allies to fight back.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC contributed $10,000 to Sen. Michael Bennet’s campaign and contacted hundreds of voters through a volunteer-led phone bank. In addition, the organization mobilized through email and text messaging its 12,063 member activists in Colorado in support of Bennet’s candidacy.
In addition to Sen. Bennet’s victory, Keenan also commended NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado and its allies for decisively defeating Amendment 62, a so-called “personhood” ballot measure. The victory over Amendment 62 marked the second time voters in the Rocky Mountain state have rejected a measure that would establish legal protections for fertilized eggs, with the goal of outlawing abortion and many common forms of birth control as well as stem-cell research and in-vitro fertilization.
