NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC Endorses Candidates in Top U.S. House and Senate Contests

Pro-choice organization looks to protect pro-choice pick-ups and special-election wins

Washington, DC – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, announced that her organization's political action committee made another round of endorsements in key U.S. House and Senate races across the country.

NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC endorsed pro-choice Rep. Kendrick Meek in his bid for the open U.S. Senate seat in Florida.

NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC also endorsed three pro-choice House incumbents for the 2010 election cycle: Rep. John Adler in New Jersey's 3rd District, Rep. Tim Bishop in New York's 1st District, and Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy in Ohio's 15th District. Additionally, NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC endorsed Ann McLane Kuster for New Hampshire's 2nd District, where she is seeking to succeed Rep. Paul Hodes, a NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC-endorsed candidate for the U.S. Senate.

"We are proud to put our support behind this outstanding slate of pro-choice candidates," Keenan said. "Our goals for 2010 are clear. We will re-elect pro-choice incumbents, keep open pro-choice seats in our column, and work to win races for seats occupied by anti-choice incumbents or left open by anti-choice retirements. It's still early in the election cycle, so it's fantastic to have so many strong candidates emerge across the country. Our activists will have multiple opportunities to work on behalf of pro-choice candidates."

NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC contributed $5,000 each to Reps. Adler, Bishop, Kilroy, and Meek and to Ann McLane Kuster for their respective primary elections.

Overall, NARAL Pro-Choice America's political program has helped produce enormous gains for pro-choice forces in Congress, including the combined net gain of 44 pro-choice seats in the House and nine new pro-choice senators in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles. In its 2008 post-election analysis, National Journal ranked NARAL Pro-Choice America second among the nation's top 21 political organizations for its impressive win rate among endorsed congressional candidates in hotly contested races.
