NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC Endorses Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy in Key U.S. House Contest

Pro-choice organization hails Kilroy's commitment to protect women's freedom and privacy

Washington, DC – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, today announced that her organization's political action committee proudly endorsed pro-choice Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy (OH-15) in a key U.S. House race in 2010.

NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC contributed $5,000 to Kilroy for the primary election, and Keenan said the organization will mobilize its more than 3,500 member activists in her central Ohio district in support of her campaign.

"Rep. Kilroy is the fully pro-choice candidate who will keep this competitive district in pro-choice hands," Keenan said. "Rep. Kilroy has a solid record of standing up for women's freedom and privacy and is an outstanding advocate for Ohio's commonsense pro-choice values. She stood with women as anti-choice lawmakers used health reform to undermine a woman's right to choose. For that and many other reasons, we are fully committed to mobilizing our members in support of her reelection efforts."

Leaders in Ohio echo the praise for Kilroy's support for protecting women's ability to make personal, private medical decisions.

"We have a longstanding relationship with Rep. Kilroy," said Kellie Copeland, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio. "She has been a steadfast supporter of a woman's right to choose throughout her distinguished career in public service. We will work to ensure that Ohioans see the difference between a committed champion of choice like Rep. Kilroy and a candidate who campaigns on the perception that he's pro-choice."

Overall, NARAL Pro-Choice America's political program has helped produce enormous gains for pro-choice forces in Congress, including the combined net gain of 44 pro-choice seats in the House and nine new pro-choice senators in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles. In its 2008 post-election analysis, National Journal ranked NARAL Pro-Choice America second among the nation's top 21 political organizations for its impressive win rate among endorsed congressional candidates in hotly contested races.
