NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC Endorses Weprin in New York Special Election
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, announced that her organization’s political action committee proudly endorsed pro-choice state Assemblyman David Weprin, to represent New York’s 9th Congressional District.
“I believe that a woman’s right to choose is a fundamental right,” says Weprin. “I proudly accept this endorsement from NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC. As a member of the New York State Bipartisan Pro-Choice Legislative Caucus, I have worked to strengthen and protect reproductive rights for New York women, and as a member of Congress, I will work just as hard ensure these rights for women all across this country.”
Weprin’s opponent is Bob Turner, an anti-choice businessman who lost against former Rep. Anthony Weiner in 2010 after spending $400,000 of his own money. Turner has been quoted saying, “when I’m elected, I would certainly oppose all federal funding of abortion.” (July 8, 2010 - http://thelobbyist.net/lobby/archives/3680)
Keenan said that her organization will mobilize its more than 1,800 member activists in the district to support David Weprin’s candidacy for Congress.
“Since November of 2010, the rights of women have come under attack in an unprecedented way,” said Keenan. “The anti-choice leaders in Washington promised Americans they would focus on jobs; instead they are advancing an agenda that attacks women’s reproductive freedom and health at every turn. We need strong leaders like David Weprin, who has been a champion for women in New York, to continue standing up for our pro-choice values as a representative in Washington.”
