NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC Congratulates Rep.-Elect Suzanne Bonamici
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, praised voters in Oregon’s 1st Congressional District for electing NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC-endorsed candidate Suzanne Bonamici to represent them in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“The people of Oregon have made their choice in this race by rejecting an anti-choice candidate, and sending Rep.-elect Bonamici to Washington,” Keenan said. “Rep.-elect Bonamici is a champion of the fundamental values of freedom and privacy. We will need her voice as anti-choice lawmakers continue to push an agenda that’s out of touch with our country’s values and priorities.”
Keenan said Rep.-elect Bonamici will join the House that took eight votes on choice-related measures in 2011—the highest number in more than a decade. Among the legislative attacks, the House voted to allow hospitals to deny emergency abortion care to women who would otherwise die without it.
NARAL Pro-Choice America mobilized its 2,490 member activists in the district through email and text messaging. The organization also garnered social media support for Bonamici’s campaign and organized phone banks.
Rep.-elect Bonamici’s victory means the seat will remain in the pro-choice column.
