NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC Endorses Julia Brownley in California’s 26th DistrictOpen seat creates opportunity for a pro-choice pick-up
Washington, D.C. –Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, announced that her organization’s political action committee endorsed state Sen. Julia Brownley in California’s 26th Congressional District.
Keenan said voters in this district have three principal candidates in the primary, two from the major political parties and an independent. Keenan said Brownley is the strongest candidate to draw a contrast with an anti-choice candidate in the general election. The race is to replace retiring anti-choice Rep. Elton Gallegy, who has not taken a single pro-choice vote in more than a decade.
“State Sen. Julia Brownley is a strong pro-choice candidate who will make a great addition to the wonderful group of pro-choice leaders that hails from the Golden State,” Keenan said. “Anti-choice House members are launching a War on Women, and state Sen. Brownley would be a strong voice in opposition to this far-reaching agenda. We call on voters in this district to replace the outgoing member of Congress with someone who shares their pro-choice values—and state Sen. Brownley is that person.”
In 2011, the House held eight votes on choice-related issues, the highest number in more than a decade. In 2012, anti-choice House leaders have lined up no fewer than five separate bills with anti-abortion provisions for floor action this session.
