NARAL Pro-Choice America Celebrates the Return of Pro-Choice Champions to Congress
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, congratulated U.S. House incumbents endorsed by the organization’s political action committee for their successful re-election bids.
“I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to our pro-choice champions in the U.S. House for running such successful campaigns,” Keenan said. “They are leaders we have counted on to withstand and push back against far-reaching and unprecedented attacks on women’s freedom and privacy. Time and again, they fight for pro-choice policies that protect our right to choose and fight against anti-choice attacks that open the door to even more political interference in our personal, private decisions.”
Pro-choice leaders returning to the U.S. House include: Reps. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.), Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), Donna Edwards (D-Md.), Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.), Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), Gwen Moore (D-Wis.), Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Whip Steny Hoyer.
“One critical part of our mission is to elect pro-choice champions and defeat opponents of women’s right to choose,” Keenan said. “As we usher in the 113th Congress, we look forward to continuing to our work with these pro-choice allies in countering legislative attacks on women’s fundamental rights.”
During the 2012 election cycle, NARAL Pro-Choice America and NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC spent more than $3.3 million to support pro-choice candidates including President Obama, our incumbent pro-choice senators and congressional representatives and our challengers running in states and districts throughout the country. This includes more than $700,000 in direct contributions to federal candidates and committees; more than $1.3 million on independent expenditure activity; and nearly $200,000 on member communications.
