NARAL Pro-Choice America Applauds Patrick Murphy for Defeating Anti-Choice Incumbent
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, congratulated Patrick Murphy for ousting anti-choice incumbent Allen West to represent Florida’s 18th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“I congratulate the Murphy campaign for a job well done,” said Keenan. “Rep.-elect Murphy’s victory over the anti-choice incumbent is another sign that voters are tired of the divisive attacks on our reproductive freedom and privacy. We were proud to support Murphy’s campaign and put this seat back in the pro-choice column. As Rep.-elect Murphy joins the 113th Congress, we look forward to working with him to uphold America’s pro-choice values.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC endorsed and contributed $10,000 to Patrick Murphy’s campaign for Congress.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC spent more than $3.3 million to support President Obama, incumbent pro-choice senators and congressional representatives and challengers running in states and districts throughout the country. This amount includes more than $700,000 in direct contributions to federal candidates and committees; nearly $200,000 on member communications; and more than $1.3 million on independent-expenditure activity.
NARAL Pro-Choice America’s independent expenditure program included mail, phones, television, and Internet advertising to reach 338,020 targeted pro-choice Obama defector voters in 25 counties within nine battleground states: CO, FL, IA, NC, NH, NV, OH, VA, WI. These “defectors” are women voters who supported President Obama in 2008, but were unsure or not planning to support his re-election.
