The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-3 in the case Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt to affirm the freedom and self-determination of women in this country. They overturned Texas' notorious anti-choice TRAP law known as H.B.2.
What are TRAP laws? TRAP stands for "targeted regulation of abortion providers." These anti-choice laws impose unnecessary, burdensome regulations on doctors and clinics. They're cleverly designed to close clinics and make abortion care more expensive and difficult to obtain. Texas' law could have closed down all but 10 clinics in the state, affecting millions of women and families.
The Supreme Court's decision will help to stem the public health crisis in Texas by allowing the remaining clinics in Texas to keep their doors open, and it paves the way for new clinics to open and meet the needs of the millions of women in underserved areas of Texas.
