Did you know that pro-choice activists defeated abortion opponents in Montana in their attempt to pass a "personhood" ballot initiative in 2009?
In September 2009, the Montana Pro-Life Coalition’s proposed ballot measure that would define the term “person” in the state constitution as “from the beginning of the biological development of that human being,” was approved for signature gathering. The initiative was led by the same anti-choice activists who proposed a similar amendment to be placed on the ballot in November 2008. Having failed to gather the necessary 44,615 signatures in 2008, they renewed their push for its placement on ballot in November 2010 – and were defeated once again.
Similar attempts in Georgia, Colorado, Alaska, and Oregon have failed in recent years, sending a clear message that Americans oppose such divisive and transparently political proposals.
