NARAL Pro-Choice America Releases Overview of Gov. Mitt Romney's RecordRomney's win in Michigan brings more attention to his anti-choice record
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, issued the following statement announcing the release of a new profile on presidential candidate Mitt Romney's record on a woman's right to choose.
"Gov. Mitt Romney's win in the Michigan primary should call additional attention to his record on reproductive-rights issues," Keenan said. "During his tenure as governor of Massachusetts, Gov. Romney's self-described position on abortion and other reproductive-rights issues shifted from pro-choice to anti-choice. We cannot afford another four years of Bush-style anti-choice politics. We'll get the message out to voters in Nevada, South Carolina, and beyond and continue to focus on stopping any anti-choice candidate who, like Romney, threatens to carry on Bush's anti-choice legacy."
The new NARAL Pro-Choice America profile shows that this "flip-flopper" has the anti-choice credentials to back-up his newfound anti-choice position. When asked if the repeal of Roe v. Wade would be a good day for America, Romney responded, "Absolutely." As governor, Romney even vetoed a commonsense measure that would have improved access to emergency contraception for sexual-assault survivors.
