NARAL Pro-Choice America Announces Speakers at Power of Choice Luncheon
Event coincides with the final debate of a presidential campaign where women voters in swing states will play key role in deciding the electionWashington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, announced today that Caroline Kennedy, a senior adviser and surrogate for Sen. Barack Obama, and Anna Quindlen, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author, will speak at the organization's Power of Choice Luncheon in New York on Wednesday, October 15.
The event will take place at the Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Plaza hours before the final presidential debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Kennedy will speak as a representative of the Obama campaign. Quindlen will deliver the keynote speech.
The program also will include remarks by civic leader and political commentator Julie Menin, who will serve as the event's emcee, and a tribute to philanthropist and community leader Joan Tisch for her steadfast support of women's reproductive freedom.
"NARAL Pro-Choice America is engaged in an innovative campaign to persuade key blocs of women voters in battleground states to support Sen. Barack Obama," Keenan said. "As we move forward with these efforts in the closing weeks of this pivotal election, we are honored to have two distinguished speakers, Caroline Kennedy and Anna Quindlen, who will reinforce in eloquent and inspiring fashion the multiple reasons this election is so important for the country's future."
The event is slated to run from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Rainbow Room in New York City, located at 30 Rockefeller Center on the 65th floor. The expected times for key remarks follow:
12:05 p.m. – Opening remarks by Julie Menin, emcee
12:10 p.m. – Remarks by Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America
12:15 p.m. – Presentation of award to Joan Tisch by Maria Vullo, chair of the board of directors, NARAL Pro-Choice America
12:20 p.m. – Remarks by Caroline Kennedy
12:30 p.m. - Break in program
12: 50 p.m. – Keynote speech by Anna Quindlen
