Statement on Attack on Rep. Giffords, Her Staff, and Constituents
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, issued the following statement regarding the tragedy in Arizona.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ family and the families of all those members of the Tucson community affected by Saturday’s incomprehensible tragedy.
“Rep. Giffords is a committed and passionate public servant. Her integrity, forthrightness, and ability to build consensus among her peers are examples of the many remarkable qualities we admire in working with her. It is unconscionable that such a senseless and inexplicable act of violence could happen to Rep. Giffords, her staff, and her constituents.
“This tragedy is a stark reminder that violence aimed at public officials, the individuals who work for them, and the constituents who wish to speak with their representatives has no place in our country’s political process.”
