Pro-Choice Activists Show Up at Rep. Lipinski’s Office DoorIgnoring jobs and the economy, Lipinski votes in lock-step with Speaker Boehner’s anti-choice agenda
Chicago - Today Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, joined Illinois activists in Southwest Chicago to hold anti-choice Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.) responsible for taking a leading role in House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) War on Women.
“Since January, Rep. Lipinski has jumped at every opportunity to vote in lock-step with the House leadership’s extreme anti-choice agenda,” Keenan said. “This is a far cry from the focus on jobs and the economy that he promised voters. As long as Rep. Lipinski continues to support the War on Women, we will make sure he is held accountable for attacking women’s freedom and privacy.”
During the event, Keenan delivered a petition signed by Lipinski’s constituents who are outraged by the congressman’s wildly misguided priorities. Illinois is just the first stop on NARAL Pro-Choice America’s tour to call out key members of the House and hold them accountable for taking votes that harm women and families.
Below is a snapshot of Rep. Lipinski’s anti-choice actions over the last six months:
Jan. 20, 2011: Lipinski cosponsors H.R.358, a bill that, in its current form, would allow a hospital to refuse a woman abortion care even if she will die without it, among other egregious provisions.
Feb. 18, 2011: Rep. Lipinksi votes for an amendment by Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) to defund Planned Parenthood. The Pence amendment would have barred millions of women from accessing birth control, Pap smears, cancer screenings, and other basic health care.
April 14, 2011: As if once weren’t enough, Lipinski votes again to defund Planned Parenthood.
May 4, 2011: Lipinski votes for H.R.3, a bill that could spur the IRS to audit rape and incest survivors who choose abortion care. The bill also includes a series of tax increases on small businesses and many individuals in an effort to end private insurance coverage of abortion care.
May 25, 2011: Lipinski votes to bar teaching health centers from using federal funds for comprehensive medical training that includes abortion care.
