NARAL Pro-Choice America Celebrates the Beginning of President Obama’s Second Term
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America – the political leader of the pro-choice movement – said the second inauguration of President Obama is a tremendous occasion for women and their families.
“Today we celebrate the beginning of President Obama’s second term,” said Keenan. “The president shares the belief of most Americans that a woman’s right to choose is a fundamental constitutional right. He believes that every woman should be able to consult with her doctor in making the personal, private decisions that are best for her and her family without government intrusion. President Obama’s leadership reflects his commitment to protecting the right to this vital American freedom. We are reminded of this each and every time he stands with women and their families against extreme anti-choice attacks on reproductive rights. As anti-choice politicians remain hell-bent on rolling back reproductive-health care, President Obama distinguishes himself as a leader women can trust. We are confident that the president will remain committed to upholding these pro-choice values over the next four years.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America was the first pro-choice organization to announce support for President Obama’s re-election.
During the 2012 election cycle, NARAL Pro-Choice America and NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC spent more than $3.3 million to support President Obama, incumbent pro-choice senators and members of Congress, as well as pro-choice challengers running in states and districts throughout the country.
