Ohio Governor Kasich Sides with Extremists, Signs Dangerous Anti-Choice Measures Into Law
Washington D.C. – Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, expressed strong dismay with Ohio Governor John Kasich, who refused to use his line-item veto power to remove dangerous anti-choice measures from the state budget.
“Gov. Kasich had an opportunity to remove these dangerous anti-woman anti-choice provisions from the budget. Instead, he chose to support extremist policies that harm the welfare of the women of Ohio,” said Hogue. “The governor’s job is to improve the health and lives of Ohio citizens, not push an anti-choice agenda which could have disastrous consequences for the women of the state.”
“This laundry list of egregious anti-choice measures Gov. Kasich signed into law includes forcing doctors to perform medically unnecessary procedures and blocks public hospitals from accepting non-emergency patient transfers from abortion clinics,” Hogue continued. “It also diverts money from programs that support low-income women and families to anti-choice crisis pregnancy centers that use medically inaccurate information and manipulation to block women from choosing abortion.”
“Gov. Kasich had an opportunity to stand with the women of Ohio and use his veto pen to protect them from an ideological attack on their right to choose. Unfortunately, he chose to let anti-choice extremists in the state carry the day. The women of Ohio will remember this.”
