George W. Bush's White House: Where the Anti-Choice Action Never Stops

Bush Move to Cancel Another Year’s Family-Planning Funds Could Lead to More Than 75,000 Infant Deaths, 800,000 Additional Abortions Statement of Elizabeth Cavendish, Interim President of NARAL Pro-Choice America

Washington, DC – “You have to give the president and his cronies credit for persistence – some people might have considered it enough for one week to push a pointless vote on banning same-sex marriages, win a vote on a gag rule that could bar doctors from even discussing abortion with women patients, and pump up funding for dangerous “abstinence-only” programs. But George Bush can always find one more way to push his far-right agenda.”

“With today’s announcement that he has cancelled funding again for the United Nations Family Planning Fund, Bush is patting himself on the back for an action that could mean nearly 2 million unintended pregnancies, 800,000 abortions, 4,700 maternal deaths, 60,000 cases of serious maternal illness, and more than 77,000 infant and child deaths in the next twelve months.”

“George W. Bush is really showing his true colors. Protecting the health and well-being of women and babies around the world is insufficient a reason to stop him from promoting his anti-choice agenda.”
