NARAL Pro-Choice America Pays Tribute to Governor Ann Richards’ Legacy of Leadership

Washington, DC – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, issued the following statement in commemoration of former Texas Governor Ann Richards' years of public service and unyielding commitment to advancing women's freedom and equality.

"We join Governor Richards' many other friends and admirers in paying tribute to a remarkable leader who filled any room she entered with a vivacious personality that, coupled with a keen intellect, inspired a new generation of leaders to pursue careers in public service. Governor Richards' courage and fearlessness showed other women that no elected office, even the top one in Texas, was out of reach. For a testament to Governor Richards' contributions we look to her daughter Cecile, who is an outstanding steward of her mother's legacy of fighting to improve the lives of women and their families. Our thoughts, prayers, and hearts are with Cecile and other family members during this difficult time."
