Pro-Choice Americans Salute the Leadership of Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones

Washington, DC – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, issued the following statement in honor of Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones’ years of public service and commitment to protecting and preserving reproductive rights.

“We join Rep. Tubbs Jones’ many other friends and admirers in paying tribute to a great leader and ally. Pro-choice Americans will remember Rep. Tubbs Jones for her dedication to the pro-choice values of freedom and privacy. We will miss our dear friend, and our thoughts, prayers, and hearts are with her family during this difficult time.”

The congresswoman’s career has been marked with accolades. She was the first African-American woman to be elected to Congress from Ohio, served on the influential House Ways and Means Committee, and was the co-chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. In 2003, she received one of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio’s first Champion of Choice awards.
