Getting a birth-control prescription filled should be easy. You take your prescription to a pharmacy and leave with the medication that your doctor prescribed. But what would you do if your pharmacist made you feel ashamed for using birth control and refused to give it to you?
Women should be able to get their birth-control prescriptions at any pharmacy. But the fact is many women are turned away at the pharmacy counter.
The Challenge
It may surprise you to learn that many states let pharmacies refuse to fill a birth-control prescription. It's not just inconvenient for a woman to be denied her birth-control prescription, it can be dangerous to her health. Women should not fear getting a lecture or being humiliated at the pharmacy counter.
Our Solution
We can call on all lawmakers to fix this problem:
- States can pass laws that guarantee that women can get their birth-control prescription filled at any pharmacy.
- Better yet, Congress could enact a law that would put an end to denials and delays at pharmacy counters in all 50 states.
