I was 19 I found out I was pregnant the first time. I knew I needed an abortion since there was no way for me to care for a child and continue school. I went to a clinic, walked past the pro-life protesters and went inside. My abortion was quick, safe and the right thing to do for me at that time.
I distinctly remember a woman sitting next to me looking out at the graphic pro-life signs being held by protesters. She said to them through the window, "Are you going to pay for my baby's food and shelter? Are you going to pay for her day care? No, you are just going to stand there on the street and shame me for my decision." After a conversation with her I found out she was already a mother of 3 and doing this so she could continue to support the children she already had.
The decision to have an abortion is not easy but it is a woman's right to make that decision herself with help from her family and other loved ones. Today I am solidly pro-choice, have a college degree and a beautiful daughter.
