I have a dear friend who discovered she was carrying a severely deformed child in her second trimester. The ultrasound showed anencephaly, with the skull malformed and no possibility of brain function. She had a late term abortion and while it was terrible it was the right thing to do.
On examination there was not even a brain stem present in the fetus. This child would not have lived for more than a few minutes after birth, even with medical intervention and life support.
Making late term abortion illegal in these circumstances is nothing less than sadism. A woman suffers enough with a diagnosis like that, dragging it on is inhumane.
