I was 16 years old and a sophomore in high school. Part of every club and sport I could find as well as being an 'A' student. I was also living right along the poverty line.
I was lucky enough that my mom was able to set her political and religious beliefs aside in order to protect me from the many struggles that I would have faced caused by failed birth control.
It was not easy but it was the right choice. MY choice. I am now the first college graduate in my family and working to help other young women like me, protect themselves, educate themselves, and secure a better life for their future selves. It was the hardest and best decision I have ever made.
