When I was 20, I got pregnant. I was in my junior year of college, wasn't in a serious relationship, and had no plans to have a family for at least ten years, so I knew immediately that I couldn't have this baby. Even though I'd always been a huge advocate for women's right to choose, I had never thought it was something that would happen to me. It was tough to realize that this can affect anyone.
I got my abortion at a clinic in MD while I was home on break. I was nervous, but I knew it was the right choice for me. The people in the clinic were very supportive, and the abortion itself was a lot less scary than I expected. Even though it wasn't a choice that I would ever want to have to make again, I know I made the right one. Now, I can wait and have a family when I'm ready and when I can give that child all of the attention and love it deserves.
I'm so thankful that I live in a country where I have the right to choose when and how I have a family. It was a hard choice to make, but my life is definitely better for it, and I have never regretted it. I hope that every woman will continue to have the right to make this choice for herself, and I will continue to advocate for women's right to choose.
