I thought I was pregnant in 1978 when I was only sixteen years old. I still remember the panic and desperation I felt. Thankfully, my mother and I had a close and open relationship and she was there for me. I remember asking her "What will I do if the test is positive?" and she said, "Well, I guess we can talk about an abortion."
The test was negative, so I never had to make the choice. I don't know what I would have ultimately chosen to do, but it was an incredible relief (and I was so grateful) to know that I HAD a choice.
I owe it to my sisters, who may one day find themselves facing a terrifying unplanned pregnancy, to do what I can to help preserve the precious choice for them.
