In 1960 I was a student nurse assigned to the ER. One evening a car pulled up to the ER dooor and left a young girl out onto the pavement. She was covered in blood. She died a few minutes after we got her into a room. She was 13 years old and had had a "Back Alley abortion". This experiance had a very real impact on my feelings toward abortions. I never again wanted to see a young girl die like that and even though my religion forbids abortion except in cases of the mothers life in danger, I became "Pro Choice" before there was "Pro Choice".
