I found I was pregnant five months before my high school graduation. I had a college scholarship and no money for a baby. I was 17 years old, scared, and very very alone. Since my parents were fiercely anti-abortion, I decided not to tell them. Due to the laws in my state, I had to go in front of a judge and prove I was mature enough to obtain an abortion without parental consent. I went to the clinic alone, and I still remembered the terrible things anti-abortion protesters screamed at me. Before my experience, I had no idea that one in three women will get an abortion. Now I am one of them. I am so proud to live in a country where abortion was an option, and I can only hope that every single woman will someday gain reproductive justice.
