I used to say that I was pro-choice, but would include, "I wouldn't do it, but it's good that other women have that choice."
When I was 19 I was faced with an unplanned pregnancy. My family had been going through some difficult times so I was unable to talk to them about my situation. It was a very difficult time for me, but I found support at Planned Parenthood. I made the choice to have a medical abortion, not because I was raped or because of medical complications, I made that choice for me.
Now looking back before my abortion, I am disappointed at my contradicting beliefs. By saying that I was pro-choice, I should have also taken into consideration that I could be faced with that decision. It's not someone else's rights or choice that I'm standing up for, it's mine as well.
